Female Patient Being Reassured By Doctor

With the many advancements in LASIK surgery over the past decades, the speed, efficiency, precision, and comfort of the procedure have improved dramatically. Innovations such as all-laser LASIK, which eliminates the need for a surgical blade during the procedure, and other state-of-the-art technologies are often able to make our patients at Gordon Schanzlin New Vision Institute feel more comfortable before the procedure even begins. Throughout the entire process, your safety and comfort remain our top priorities.

On the day of your procedure, one of our eye surgeons will administer a medicated eye drop that will temporarily numb the eye. As a result, patients typically do not experience pain during surgery. A special device will hold your eye open during the procedure to prevent blinking; most patients equate this feeling to holding the eyelids open while inserting a contact lens. Though some patients describe this sensation as “awkward,” they do not usually report any significant discomfort. In addition, thanks to technology such as the WaveLight® Refractive Suite, the corneal flap can be created in about six seconds, minimizing the duration of the entire surgery.

Many patients will experience some eye irritation and light sensitivity during the days following LASIK surgery as the eyes heal, though these sensations should begin to dissipate quickly. Post-operative eye drops will be prescribed to increase your comfort after your surgery and expedite your recovery. Most individuals are able to resume normal daily activities a day after the procedure. Improvement of vision is often noticeable within the first few days following treatment. We will schedule a few post-operative appointments to monitor your progress.
