What is LipiFlow?

It is estimated that 5 million Americans suffer from Dry Eye; a number that is likely to increase due to prolonged computer use and reliance on digital technologies such as smart phones, tablets, and laptops, which have been shown to decrease blink rate.

Meibomian gland dysfunction is the primary contributor to as many as 85% of Dry Eye cases. The Meibomian glands are oil producing glands in your eye lids which can become blocked over time, preventing the production of oils and lipids necessary for keeping the eyes moist. Restoring regular oil flow can improve Dry Eye symptoms.

LipiFlow® is an in-office treatment which relieves blockage of the Meibomian glands in both the upper and lower eyelids by applying directed heat and massaging pressure. After the 12-minute treatment is complete, the Meibomian glands can start to function properly and produce the natural oil that is needed to keep your eyes and tear film hydrated.
